Dr. Roger A. Hajosy

April 1, 1936 — September 12, 2021

Dr. Roger A. Hajosy, age 85, of Cedartown, Georgia passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, September 12, 2021.

Roger was born in Salem Depot, New Hampshire on April 1, 1936, the third son of Louis Stephen Hajosy, Sr. and Grace Lord Hajosy, joining his two older brothers, Ralph and Louis. In 1951, the family moved from the northeast to Cedartown where the entire family quickly became involved in the fabric of the community.
Roger graduated from Cedartown High School in 1954 and from Emory University in 1958 with a BS Degree in Geology. While at Emory, he reconnected with and began dating Cedartown native and friend Ditsy Oates. They married in August 1959. He continued his education earning a master’s degree in Geology from University of Tennessee in Knoxville…all to fulfill his dreams to become an “oilman” in South America; his bride, however, forthrightly informed him she was not going to live with an oilman in South America.

Consequently, he entered dental school at the University of Tennessee-Memphis, and after graduating he practiced dentistry in the U.S. Army. After his military stint, he practiced in McDonough, Georgia and in Salt Lake City before returning to Cedartown to establish a practice here in the early 70’s. He was a much loved and respected dentist in Cedartown and Polk County for more than 30 years.

Roger was preceded in death by his father and mother; his son Alan; and his brother Louis.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Ditsy Oates Hajosy of Cedartown; daughter Anna Hajosy of Cashiers, NC; daughter Courtney Schneider of Atlanta; and grandchildren Forrest Schneider and Grace Schneider of Atlanta.

Growing up, Roger and his brothers lived a life unknown to many young people today. He was a self-motivated, resourceful, fearless adventurer who loved anything outdoors: hunting, fishing, trapping, farming and construction. He spent the last decades of his life developing his farm that allowed him to continue doing the things he loved with the people he loved. He was a devoted family man and delighted in seeing his children, grandchildren, and friends enjoying life at the farm. He and Ditsy loved traveling and he often traveled internationally with his brothers to hunt and fish.

Roger and his family were members of the Cedartown First United Methodist Church, where they took an active role in the church events, including singing in the choir for 20+ years.

An informal visitation with the family to celebrate Roger’s life will be conducted Thursday, September 16, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Cherokee Golf and Country Club.

The family will conduct a private memorial at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Roger’s name be made to the Cedartown First United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.

The Smith & Miller Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Dr. Roger A. Hajosy.
