Betty Ann Griffin

Mrs. Betty Ann Horton Griffin, also known as “Bebe”, age 95, of Cedartown passed away Friday March 22, 2024.

Mrs. Griffin was born in Rome, Georgia on October 29, 1928, to her late parents, Ward Beecher Horton, and Ruth Selman Horton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Robert Griffin, III on November 21, 2014, sisters, Vivian Horton, Marion Stoffregen, Martha Jane Tidwell, and Patty B. Davis; brother, Ward " Bud" Horton.

She is survived by her daughter, Patti Stewart; son, Fred Foster Griffin and his wife, Angela; beloved grandchildren, Benjamin Stewart, Rebecca Stewart, Haley Sanders, and her husband, Mike, Hannah Murphy and her husband, Will, and Foster Griffin and his wife, Gabrielle; along with 8 great grandchildren; and her dear friend, Barbara Bowen. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mrs. Griffin graduated from Girls High School of Rome in 1945 as Vice President of her class and enjoyed her years as a cheerleader for the Hilltoppers. In 1947 she began her banking career at National City Bank of Rome. On October 11, 1949, she married John Robert Griffin, III in a double wedding with her sister, Martha Jane. After her marriage she joined her husband in Cedartown. She then joined Liberty National Bank (now Colony Bank) in 1950. She served in many areas, especially assisting in coordinating the Senior Bank Travel Club, First Folks, for senior customers to travel the world. She retired in 1995 as Senior Vice President. She also served on the Board of Directors for Cedartown Housing Authority from October 2, 1974, until 1995. In 1990, Cedartown Business and Professional Women’s Club honored her with the “Women of Achievement Award”. Most importantly, she was a long-time active member of Cedartown First Methodist Church. 

A service to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the sanctuary of Cedartown First Methodist Church with Reverend Britt Madden, Jr officiating along with Rebecca Stewart and Fred Griffin delivering words of remembrance. 

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Cedartown First Methodist Church.
