Britt Madden, Sr.

July 11, 1943 — February 16, 2023

Mr. Britt Brown Madden, Sr., 79, of Cedartown, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023.

Mr. Madden was born July 11, 1943, the only child of the late Solomon C. and Geraldine Madden.

Britt lived with his parents initially in downtown Cedartown, eventually moving to the family farm on Cave Spring Road in the 1960s. He was both baptized and later confirmed at the age of 13 at Cedartown First United Methodist Church. Britt was a Cedartown High School graduate of the Class of 1961. Upon graduation, he attended the University of Georgia and obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1965. Subsequently, Britt earned his Master of Accountancy degree in 1967. Later that year, he passed the CPA exam on the first try while achieving the highest score in the auditing section in the state. 1967 was also the year that Britt met his wife, Brenda Butler, and within three short months, they were married. In 1971, they welcomed a son, Britt Brown Madden, Jr.

His first job was with Read, Martin, and Slickman CPAs, an accounting firm in Rome, Ga. During his time at that firm, Britt made lifelong friends in the industry he loved. In late 1969, Britt came back to Cedartown and opened an office of his own. There he performed basic accounting and tax duties while teaching classes at Jacksonville State University at night. Britt obtained many accolades professionally in his career and always approached his practice in a way of never looking at clients as anything but friends. For 29 years, Britt practiced accounting with his son, Britt, Jr., and he treasured his time sitting across from his beloved son doing what he felt he was born to do. While Britt had attained many professional and personal achievements, no greater pride did he show than in his granddaughters, Anna (5) and Lily (3).

Britt and Brenda navigated life with all of its ups and downs together for 52 years. All the while, they continually strengthened their relationship and grew in their faith by being active members at Cedartown First United Methodist Church. The Maddens were faithful members and a fixture on the back left pew of the church. Nothing made Britt happier than seeing a fourth generation of Maddens (his granddaughters) sit inside the church he loved in that very same pew. Britt’s only church membership was at Cedartown First.

Mr. Madden was preceded in death by his father, Solomon C. Madden; mother, Geraldine Madden, and wife Brenda Madden (2019). Surviving are his son, Britt Brown Madden Jr., daughter-in-law, Aimee Madden, and granddaughters, Anna and Lily Bea. Several cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 24, 2023, at 2 p.m. Visitation will be held from noon until the funeral hour in the parlour room of Cedartown First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Northview Cemetery. Officiants will be the Rev. Dr. Robin L. Lindsey and Rev. Michael Broome.
