Dorothy "Dot" Knight

Dorothy Virginia Worsham Knight, age 85, of Cedartown passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 7, 2024, surrounded by her family and friends. 


She was born in Cedartown on May 11,1938 to the late Otis Franklin and Dorothy Annie Belle Edwards Worsham.


She married the love of her life, Joel David Knight, in July 1955. She was preceded in death by Joel and their infant son, Dayton Allen Knight and her brothers, Jimmy Clifford Worsham and Randy Olen Worsham.


 She is survived by her children Sherry Knight Hancock (Jack), Joel David Knight (Polly), Franklin Scott Knight (Rhonda) and Tiffani Knight Russell (Craig). She was the loving grandmother of Marti Hancock McKee (Travis), Brandon Hancock, Jeffrey Hancock (Greta), Jonathan Hancock (Kimberly), Jordan Hancock, Zachry Hancock (Mary), Joshua Knight (Cheree), Rindi Langston, Callen Knight Backs (Fletcher), Cooper Russell (Caroline), Caleb Russell and Turner Russell, nineteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Janis Worsham, and numerous nieces and nephews.


Dot was an employee of Arrow Shirt Company where she served as the union representative for several years. She was lovingly known as “Mrs. Dot” when she worked as a teaching assistant at Covenant Preschool for more than a decade. She was a talented seamstress, painter, gardener and home decorator. She was always present in the lives and activities of her family. She spent countless hours at sporting and school events, graduations, weddings and births. Her favorite pastime was shopping for her children and grandchildren.


She was a devoted member of Grace Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir, taught Vacation Bible School and served as president of Women in the Church. She also volunteered regularly at the Samaritan House. She was a loyal and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She lived her life in service to others.

The family would like to thank the administration and staff of Big Springs Village and Tapestry Hospice for the loving and attentive care they provided.


Funeral services for Dot will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Cedartown First Methodist Church, 201 Wissahickon Avenue, Cedartown, Georgia with the Reverends Sam Harris and Matthew Rabe officiating. Interment will follow in Northview Cemetery. 


The family will receive friends from 1:00 until the funeral hour at Cedartown First Methodist Church. 


Dot’s grandsons, Brandon Hancock, Jonathan Hancock, Joshua Knight, Jordan Hancock, Zachry Hancock, Cooper Russell, Caleb Russell and Turner Russell, will serve as pallbearers.


Memorial contributions can be made in Dot’s memory to Grace Presbyterian Church, 120 W. John Hand Road, Cedartown, Georgia 30125 and Our House Women’s Shelter, P. O. Box 1647, Cedartown, Georgia 30125.
