Mr. Douglas Alvin “Doug” Chandler age 63 of Cartersville, Ga. formerly of Cedartown, passed away on Monday, July the 19th, 2021.
Doug was born in Daytona Beach, Florida on October 20th, 1957, a son of the late Thomas Alvin Chandler and the late Freddie Gilliam Chandler.
Doug lived most all of his life in Cedartown but resided in Cartersville for the past 7 years. Doug was employed with the Georgia Power Company and then with the Southern Company and had been employed with both for an incredible 43 years until his death. Doug was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cedartown where he often taught Sunday School for many years. He was also a veteran of the United States Air Force. Doug was gentle and kind and was a man of few words to those that knew him. He was a man of faith and he loved his Lord and Savior. Doug enjoyed his yearly vacation trips to the beach with his family. He was an amazing supporter and provider for his family. His greatest love was his family and enjoying time with his grand children.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents as well as a number of aunts and uncles.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 42 years, Robin Whorton Chandler, to whom he was married on August the 18th 1979; daughter: Kristen Chandler DuPree (Dusty) of Alpharetta; son, Kevin Douglas Chandler of Cedartown; Grandchildren: Tatum June Chandler, Ryland Wayne DuPree and Brant Robert Chandler; sister, Carol Chandler Townsend (Michael) of Cedartown; sister in law, Susan Whorton Simpson (Neal) of Trussville, Al.; brother in law, Robert Scott Whorton of Nashville, Tn. and a number of aunts, uncles, and nieces survive.
The funeral service for Mr. chandler will be held Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Smith & miller Funeral Home with Rev. Jonathan Blackmon officiating. Interment will follow in Northview Cemetery.
The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers: Michael Townsend, Bill Garmon, Gary Millican, Dusty DuPree, Neal Simpson, and Levi Stoner. Mr. Jerry Shepherd will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, July 24, 2021 from 12 noon until the service time.
The family will receive flowers; however, they recommend donations be made in his memory to First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 101 N. College St. Cedartown, GA 30125.
