George-Paul Redgate

Command Sergeant Major, US Army, (Retired) George-Paul Redgate, age 90, of Cedartown passed away Saturday, October 15, 2022.

Mr. Redgate was born June 12, 1932, in Sullington, West Sussex, UK, son of the late George Jack Redgate and Virginia Lee Hornuge Redgate.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Redgate was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Joann L. Redgate, wife, Susan Parker Redgate, and wife, Billie Barker Redgate; sons, Bruce Redgate and Scotty Redgate.

Mr. Redgate is survived by a son, Gregory Paul Redgate; daughters, Karen B. Wutschke, Robin L. Redgate; several stepchildren; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; his beloved church family at Cedartown First United Methodist Church and his fur baby Shadow.

Having been a professional soldier for more than twenty years, Mr. Redgate fought in four wars and served four separate tours in Vietnam. Mr. Redgate was an active combatant with the Rangers, Airborne, and Special Forces. He was, at one time, on special assignment with the CIA and was nominated for selection as Enlisted Aide to The President of The United States. He retired in 1969 as the highly decorated Command Sergeant Major of the “Green Berets” of Special Forces, the highest enlisted position at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Mr. Redgate was made a citizen of the United States by an Act of Congress while working with the CIA. After his retirement, he became the Official Company Photographer of the 4th Airborne Ranger Company.

Mr. Redgate would go on to lead a very successful career managing some of the largest retail centers in the United States. Additionally, he was active with the Boys Scouts as an Assistant Scoutmaster, Little League, Centre, Alabama Rotary Club, and various youth development and community affairs. Interesting and fun facts about Mr. Redgate, he once climbed Mt. McKinley in Alaska and was Commissioned in 1982 as A Kentucky Colonel.

Mr. Redgate was a very dedicated member of the Cedartown First United Methodist Church where he served in many roles. He served as a certified lay speaker for the United Methodist Conference.

Services to celebrate his life will be held Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary of Cedartown First United Methodist Church with Bishop Joe Swell and Rev. Dr. Mark Nugent officiating, and Mr. Steve Wells delivering the eulogy. At the conclusion of the service, full military honors will be provided by the United States Army Honor Guard for his dedicated service. 

Family and friends will gather from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the church.
