Mrs. Gwendolyn “Gwen” Louise Pope Formby, age 82, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2025.

Mrs. Formby was born August 23, 1942, in Rome, Georgia, daughter of the late Oliver Pope and Lucille Lockridge Pope.

Mrs. Formby was a lifelong resident of Spring Garden, Alabama, having graduated from Piedmont High School. She worked at the Cherokee County Probate Office for ten years after retiring from a long and fulfilling career as HR Manger at Standard, Coosa, Thatcher Yarn Mill in Piedmont, Alabama. She was a generous person, always finding ways to help others without even being asked. She loved God and her church, and dedicated over fifty years of her life playing the piano for worship services. She loved spending time in her yard, especially cutting her grass. Mrs. Formby considered her family to be her greatest accomplishment in life. She was a dedicated wife to her husband, Mr. Joe Formby for forty years. She was a loving and nurturing mother and grandmother. She leaves a legacy of consistency, generosity, and compassion for others. Her presence will be missed in the lives of all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Formby is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. Joe Formby, and a sister, Jean Mullinax.

Mrs. Formby is survived by her children, Jeff Formby and his wife, Anita, and Lamonte Formby and his wife, Dona; grandchildren, Josh Formby and his wife, Jen, Jessica Brown, Dustin Formby and his wife, Callie; and great-grandchildren, Ryan Brown, Joei Formby, Laken Formby, Fisher Formby, Parker Hebeisen, Reece Brown, Rhett Brown, Rowen Brown, and Molli Formby.

Graveside and interment services to celebrate Mrs. Formby’s life will be held Monday, March 17, 2025, at 12:15 PM CST, at Carmel Community Church Cemetery, with Reverend Neale Lanigan officiating. 

Mrs. Formby’s family will receive friends, on Monday at Carmel Community Church, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM, CST, 130 County Road 33, Piedmont, Alabama, 36272.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Dustin Formby, Josh Formby, Randall Prater, Jay Prater, Wayne Smart, Boyd Reece, Ray Ragan, and Johnny Amberson. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Quinton Kirk, Brady Kirk, and Gary Adkison.

The family kindly accepts flowers, or memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Carmel Community Church, 630 County Road 33, Piedmont, Alabama, 36272.
