Mrs. Ima Jean Watson Evans, age 90, passed away Monday, January 15, 2024.
Mrs. Evans was born August 2, 1933, in Atlanta, Georgia, the daughter of the late Albert Watson and Mary Hendrix Watson.
Mrs. Evans was of the Baptist faith, having been a member of Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church for more than sixty years. She was a very gifted artist, well known for her beautiful oil paintings and the many Christmas cards she made over the years based on her paintings. Mrs. Evans loved to cook, especially for other people. She was an adventurous person, always up for road trips. Her favorite trip, though, was a cruise to Alaska. She started her career as a nurse and later went on to be a homemaker, still working as a nurse from time to time. Mrs. Evans was a very giving person who loved her family dearly.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by her loving husband, Mr. Lamar “Chandler” Evans; daughter, Sharon Evans; sister, Gertrude Watson Shelstead; and brothers, Wiley Watson, Sr., and Elton Watson.
Mrs. Evans is survived by her children, Martin Evans (Sheila Cain), David Evans (Tammy), and Lisa Taylor (Sean); grandchildren: Mitchel Evans, Mallory Evans, Walker Evans, Bethany Evans, Charis Shipman, Evan Taylor, Jack Taylor and Jessica Porter; and great grandchildren: Jacob Evans, Westley Shipman, Chandler Shipman, and Marcus Porter. Additionally, she is survived by siblings: Rachel Witt, Irene Wells (Terry), Elaine Shaw (Wayne), and Edward Watson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral service to celebrate her life will be held Thursday, January 18, 2024, at 1:00 in the afternoon at Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church in Rome, Georgia, with Dr. Philip May officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Cemetery.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Mitchel Evans, Walker Evans, Eric Shaw, Casey Wells, Michael Pyle, Harrison Pyle.
Her family will receive friends, also on Thursday, at Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church, from 11:00 AM until the service hour.
