Mr. James Felton “Jim” Williams, age 79, of Cedartown, GA, passed away Wednesday morning, June 29, 2022, at his residence.
Jim was born in “Little New York” at Aragon, GA, on June 17, 1943, son of the late James “Buck” Williams and Edna Dunn Williams. He was a 1961 graduate of Cedartown High School where he was a percussionist and attended the University of Alabama, studying music there. He would go to Brevard Music Center in North Carolina in the summers where he met the love of his life, Marian Ellen Ashe. They married on October 3, 1964, and moved to Cedartown. Jim opened his own insurance agency and then got into politics, becoming a Polk County Commissioner and eventually running for Georgia State Senator. He loved the outdoors, boating, motorcycles and his dogs.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Lewis.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Marian Ashe Williams; daughter, Amy Williams Rich of Charlotte, NC; son and daughter-in-law, John and Jennifer Stiles Williams of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Grace Stiles Williams, Carter Stiles Williams, Samuel Stiles Williams; Elijah Rich and Micah Rich; sister, Nadine Lee of Chattanooga, TN.
In keeping with Jim’s wishes, he will be cremated, and a private family memorial service will be held.
