James Russell Hopkins

Mr. James Russell Hopkins, age 76, of Cedartown, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2025.

Mr. Hopkins was born August 21, 1948, son of the late Emmett R. Hopkins and Annie Welchel Hopkins.

Mr. Hopkins was a longtime member of the Georgia National Guard. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed time spent hunting, fishing, and camping. Mr. Hopkins loved to travel, especially to the Smoky Mountains, and to the beach where he would spend countless hours looking for treasures with his metal detector. Mr. Hopkins was a devoted and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family and had a special bond with each of his grandchildren. He leaves a legacy of love, consistency, and commitment. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hopkins is preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Ann “Pat” Hopkins; stepdaughter, Michelle Hammond; son-in-law, Chad Fincher; sister, Wynette White; and brothers, Bun Hopkins, Bobby Hopkins, John “Tinker” Hopkins, and Alvin Hopkins.

Mr. Hopkins is survived by his beloved wife, Mrs. Barbara Smith Hopkins; children: April Fincher (Lane Mobbs), Marie Fincher (David), and Barbara Guadagni; step-son, Shane Smith; grandchildren: Adrian Williams (JB), Tyler Fincher (Morgan), Jamie Gamad (Jeremiah), Ryan Fincher, Savannah McGatha (Steven), Logan Fincher (Emily), Natalie Fincher (Jake), Megan Mobbs, Cole Mobbs, Tyler Mobbs, Jade Swindall, Ryan Hammond, Anna Pierce, Hunter Smith, and Brandon David Fincher(Holly); nineteen great-grandchildren; siblings: Joyce McLarty (David), Diane Harrell, Ronnie Hopkins (Angi), Ray Hopkins (Sara), and Barbara Ann Smith (Jimmy); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 2:00 PM, in the chapel of Smith & Miller Funeral Home, with Reverend Brady West officiating and Ronnie Hopkins and Savannah McGatha sharing eulogies. Interment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens with Mr. Ray Hopkins officiating.

Mr. Hopkins’ family will receive friends on Saturday at the funeral home from 12:00 PM until the service hour.
