Mr. Jeremy Hayes, age 47, passed away, Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at his home in Athens, Georgia.


Jeremy was born April 16, 1976, in Rome, Georgia, son of Homer Lee Hayes, Jr. and Seretha Hayes.


Jeremy was a 1994 graduate of Cedartown High School and spent many years umpiring for the Cedartown Recreation Department and Little League. In 2009, Jeremy was nominated and had the great honor of umpiring for the Sr. League World Series in Bangor, Maine. He had a great love for sports and was an avid UGA and New England Patriots fan. He loved all Georgia sports and enjoyed attending football, baseball, and basketball games with friends. He always enjoyed playing a game of golf. Jeremy was a fun person to be around and enjoyed time spent with his family and friends.


Jeremy is preceded in death by his Pawpaw and Mawmaw, Homer Lee Hayes, Sr. and Christine Hayes; Poppie and Nannie, Lindsey Stephens and Flora Stephens; godmother, Margie Sue Woods; aunt, Dona Lynn Hayes; and uncle, Arthur Stephens.


He is survived by his loving father and mother, Lee and Seretha Hayes; daughters, Ashley Taylor Hayes- Rogers and Lillian Georgia Hayes; and brother, Justin Hayes (Mandy). Additionally, he is survived by an uncle, Rodney Hayes (Traci); aunts, Beverly Stephens, and Lisa Skinner; nieces, Madison Hayes, Calee Hayes-Morgan, and Annie Hunt; cousins, Brett Hayes (Bre), Kitty Hardin (Tori), Brent Stephens (Nicole), Xander Stephens, Bailey Stephens, and Skylar Stephens; and best friend, Jeremy Mahan. Several extended family members and friends also survive.


Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held, Sunday, May 28, 2023, at 4:00 PM in the chapel of Smith & Miller Funeral Home with Pastor David Warriner officiating. Eulogies will be given by Bill Lundy and Kitty Hardin. The service will be livestreamed on Facebook. Interment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens. 


The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Benjie Frazier, Chris Culver, Lucas Culver, Brett Hayes, Jeremy Mahan, Chris Littlefield, Billy Frasier, and Jeff Simmons.


Jeremy’s family will receive friends on Sunday, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, at Smith & Miller Funeral Home.


The family has requested that flowers please be omitted, and memorial donations may be made to the funeral home to assist with the funeral expenses.
