Jerry "Toby" Timms

Mr. Jerry “Toby” Timms, age 75, passed away, Sunday, September 3, 2023.


Mr. Timms was born, November 1, 1947, in Cedartown, Georgia, the oldest child of the late William “WC” Timms and Evelyn Davis Timms.


Mr. Timms was a resident of Cedartown, having graduated from Cedartown High School, Class Of 1966. He then proudly served our country in the United States Army having served during the Vietnam Era. He had a love for music and was especially fond of Blue Grass music. He enjoyed his many years as a member of the Straightline Bluegrass Gospel Band. He was the owner of the Tristate Cutting Tools Company here in Cedartown for over 30 years and considered each of his customers as a friend. More than anything, Mr. Timms will be remembered as a kind, gentle man that loved and cared for everyone. He was a faithful member of New Canaan Baptist Church and loved helping with the Wednesday night children’s program. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and his presence will be missed.


In addition to his parents, Mr. Timms was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Timms and his granddaughter, Sarah ReaAnn Borders.


He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sandra Wood Timms; his daughters, Missie Borders and Melanie Cape and her husband, Ray; and grandson, Richard Borders; siblings include: Syble Billingsley and her husband, Bill, and Linda Timms McClanahan. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive.


Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at 4:00 PM in the sanctuary of his beloved New Canaan Baptist Church, with Reverend Danny Tucker and Reverend Butch Tant officiating. Interment will follow at Polk Memory Gardens with Reverend Randell Moore officiating. Military honors will be provided by The American Legion Brown–Wright Post 12.


The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Richard Borders, Ray Cape, Eric Bedford, Ted Porterfield, Jody Allred, and Mark Collier. Members of Straightline Bluegrass Band will serve as honorary pallbearers.


Mr. Timms’s family will receive friends from Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at the Smith & Miller Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
