Joel “Joe” Irwin Edge, a beloved father, brother, Papa, and friend, passed away peacefully after a brief battle with cancer. He was a man who loved his family deeply, embraced adventure, and always made time for those he cared about.
Joe was born on January 10th, 1949, to Anne Irwin Edge and John Walter Edge. He started his successful career at Star Building Systems in Cedartown, Georgia in 1977, and over the next 38 years held 14 different positions including President of Star Building Systems and President of the International Services at NCI. Since retiring, he and his girlfriend Becky shared a passion for traveling and experiencing new cultures. His Wednesday afternoon road trips with Bobby Brown , jet ski adventures, and weekly poker nights were a staple of his life at the lake. He was quite the chef and enjoyed hosting friends and family. He never missed an opportunity to explore the world around him, but calling Lake Weiss home during his retirement years with his beloved dog Sam brought him great joy.
Above all things, he cherished his family—his greatest love and proudest accomplishment. His kindness, humor and quick wit were unmatched. He left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Joe is survived by his longtime girlfriend, Becky Hines; his daughter Julie Redden (Shane), his son Joel Edge (Leslie), his daughter Meredith Dagg (Matt), and the mother of his children, Mitzi Damron. He was a proud Papa to seven grandchildren: Nick Redden (Abby), Trey Redden, Emily Redden, Emilee Grace Zuker, Jonalynn Zuker, Miles Edge, and Georgia Dagg; and great-grandson, Oliver Redden. Siblings, Anne Ake, Russ Edge (Deborah), and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held on Sunday, March 16th, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Smith and Miller Funeral Home, where family and friends will gather to honor his remarkable journey.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cedartown United Fund as tribute to the generous and adventurous spirit that defined his life.
Joel Irwin Edge’s legacy of love, adventure, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. And in his own famous words, "life was good."
