John "Barney" Powell

Mr. John “Barney” Powell, age 85, of Cedartown, Georgia passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021.

Barney was born in Cedartown September 2, 1935 to the late Chesley Powell and the late Mammie Stephens Powell. He worked for Newark Paperboard in trucking.

In addition to his parents, Barney was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Beatrice Pruitt Mull Powell, son Larry Mull along with several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his daughters, Michelle Watters (Mark) and Patricia Gilley; sons: Jimmy Mull (Carolyn), Timmy Mull (Rita); daughter in law, Imogene Mull; sister, Louise Smith; grandchildren: Robyn Sullivan (Bart), Kristi Gilley, Jennifer Swift (Steven), Heather Lemons (Ronnie), Ashley Guthrie (Joel), Breton (Jessica) Watters, Aryn Watters (Ally) and Alex Tillman (Jesy) along with several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Graveside and Interment services will be held Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Lime Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Kermit Pruitt and Rev. Steven Swift. Military rites will be presented by the United States Naval Honor Guard. Social distancing guidelines will be applied and masks are required.

The following will serve as pallbearers: Joel Guthrie, Grayden Guthrie, Breton Watters, Aryn Watters, Jesy Tillmann and Nick Moore.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lime Branch Cemetery Fund. Lime Branch Baptist Church, 1127 Tallapoosa Hwy, Cedartown, Ga, 30125.
