Mr. Johnny Wayne Garner, age 76, of Cedartown, Georgia, passed away Monday, May 8, 2023.
Johnny was born February 5, 1947, on Treat Mountain, son of the late John Lewis Garner and Audrey Pruitt Garner. He came from a large family, having been one of nine children.
Johnny proudly served our country in the United States Army and had an impressive Military career. He first enlisted in the Army February 4, 1965, and was honorably discharged February 3, 1971. Over the course of his Military career, he served on multiple tours. While serving in the Vietnam war he was given the honor of being on the guard for President Nixon. Additionally, he served our country in Germany and at Fort McClellan in Anniston, Alabama.
Johnny had a lengthy career at Ivey Construction company working throughout the country building several hospitals. After retirement, he took up being a locksmith. He was a member of the Cedartown Church of God where he was baptized in July of 2018. Above all, Johnny loved his family and enjoyed the time he spent with them. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Garner; daughter, Tiffney Waits; sisters, Teresa Jones, Marsha Brown, and Pat Jones; brother, Joel Garner; and brother in law, Euzeal Jones.
Johnny is survived by his wife of over thirty years, Kimberly Garner; children, Shannon Hainds and her husband, Billy, Jessica Sadler and her husband, Robert, Jeremy Beecham and his wife, Janae, Wesley Beecham and his wife, Megan, Jessie Samples and her husband, Marlin, and son in law, Josh Waits. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren whom he dearly loved: Amber Hainds, Sam Hainds, Ella Hainds, Aubrey Sadler, Clayton Sadler, Braxton Sadler, Summer Waits, Griffen Waits, Chandler Rogers, Kileigh Beecham, Averie Beecham, and Tyrson Samples; brothers, Mike Garner and his wife, Renee, Terry Garner and his wife, Janelle, Jimmy Garner, David Holcomb; and sister in law, Yvonne Garner. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Johnny Garner will be held Thursday, May 11, 2023, at 1:00 PM, in the chapel of the Smith & Miller Funeral Home, with Pastor Josh Tucker officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Nazareth Baptist Church Cemetery, 14595 County Road 29, Centre, Alabama 35960. Full Military Rites will be provided by The Amerigan Legion Shanklin-Attaway Post 5, Rome, Georgia.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Chandler Rogers, Braxton Sadler, Sam Hainds, James Huey, Clayton Sadler, Griffin Waits, Justin Sumlin, and Allen Barrett.
The family will receive friends at Smith & Miller Funeral Home from 11:00 AM until the funeral hour on Thursday.
