Mr. Joseph Elmer Cantrell, Sr. passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2024, after a long and fulfilling life at the age of 101.
Mr. Cantrell was born December 11, 1922 in Polk County, Georgia, son of the late Emery Waddey Cantrell and Malie Pauline Ray Cantrell.
Mr. Cantrell was a graduate of Cedartown High School. Mr. Cantrell proudly served his country in the United States Army. His service to our country resulted in multiple honors. Some of the most notable are the American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with four Bronze Stars, and a World War II Victory Medal. He was a hard-working individual and worked for General Electric and Bekaert Steel. In his personal time Mr. Cantrell enjoyed quiet afternoons fishing, and enjoyed taking trips to the beach. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Cantrell is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mrs. Hazel Tilley Cantrell; son, Joseph “Joe” Elmer Cantrell, Jr.; siblings: Clinton Cantrell, Earl Cantrell, Estelle Cantrell, and Martha Cantrell.
Mr. Cantrell is survived by his grandson, Chris Cantrell.
Graveside services to celebrate Mr. Cantrell’s life will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 3:00 PM, in Greenwood Cemetery. Military Rites will be provided by the Brown-Wright Post 12 Honor Guard.
