Ms. Margarette Lou Hamby “Boots”, age 80, passed away Friday, January 17, 2025.

Ms. Hamby was born April 30, 1944, in Rockmart, Georgia, daughter of the late Edd Wright and Nellie Williams Wright.

Ms. Hamby lived the entirety of her life in Polk County. Some of her fondest childhood memories included singing Christmas carols to neighbors and friends in the community. She especially loved singing gospel music which reminded her of her days at Young’s Grove Baptist Church and Mountain Home Baptist Church. Ms. Hamby enjoyed reading and spending time with her family as often as she could. Her most treasured accomplishments in life were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a loving and nurturing person, and she will be dearly missed by all whose lives were touched by her.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Hamby is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Wallace, whom she married on November 10, 1962, and several dearly loved brothers and sisters.

Ms. Hamby is survived by her children: Amy Gibbs (Steve), Kawna Ferguson, David Wallace (Janis), and Chris Wallace (Wendy); grandchildren: Dan Sparks (Kaitlyn), John Sparks, Chris Wallace, Autumn Wallace, Emmalyne Krahenbuhl (Hunter), Joseph Davis (Jessica), and Matthew Davis; great-grandchildren: Sarah Jo Sparks, Scarlett Sparks, Wyatt Wallace, Haven Wallace, Kylee Davis, Blayton Davis, Eathyn, and Eyn Davis; brother, Ronnie Wright and his wife, Rhonda.

Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held Monday, January 20, 2025, at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Smith & Miller Funeral Home with readings from her daughters in law, Wendy Wallace and Janis Wallace. Interment will follow at Northview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday, January 20, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Smith & Miller Funeral Home. 

Mrs. Hamby’s children, grandchildren along with Steve Gibbs, Hunter Krahenbuhl, Kaitlyn Sparks, Greg Parris, Bobby Williams, and Jake Hulsey will serve as pallbearers.

The Smith & Miller Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Margarette “Boots” Hamby.
