Rev. Delton Ray Harne

Reverend Delton Ray Harne, age 93, of Cedartown, passed away, Sunday, April 23, 2023.


Reverend Harne was born in Garfield, Maryland, May 4, 1929, son of James L Harne and Ruth Wolfe Harne.


Reverend Harne was known for his love for all people and always wore a smile. He began his ministry at the age of nineteen and went on to impact many lives in the years to follow. Reverend Harne was given the title of Pastor Emeritus after his long tenure as pastor of the Cedartown Church of God. Over the course of his ministry, Reverend Harne led countless people to know God, had a special role in officiating many weddings, and was a great example of dedication and wisdom to all who knew him. He was a loving husband to his wife, Sister Mildred Harne, for almost seventy-four years, and a devoted and caring father to his children and grandchildren. In his spare time, Reverend Harne enjoyed playing golf and painting houses. Reverend Harne leaves a legacy of Christlikeness, and his impact has been immeasurable.


In addition to his parents, Reverend Harne was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sister Mildred Harne; a brother, Boozer Harne; and two sisters, Bonnie Willard and Doris Wiles.


He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Gilbert and her husband, Ron, and Donna Rogers and her husband, Michael; grandchildren Kris (Karen) Gilbert, Ryan (Mollie) Gilbert, Rachel Arrowood, Andrea (Chase) Ramsey, Dewayne Rogers, and Karen Rogers; and great-grandchildren, Ellie Gilbert, Ryah Gilbert, Bailey Gilbert, Gwyn Gilbert, Owen Ramsey, Griffen Ramsey, Charlotte Arrowood, and Zachary Young. Additionally, he is survived by two sisters, Margaret Pecenco and Miriam Clarke, and his Bahamian family.


Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held Friday, April 28, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Victory Baptist Church with Pastor Justin Grant and Reverend Barry Snapp officiating. Eulogies will be given by Cheryl Gilbert and Karen Rogers. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with Pastor Danny Rhodes officiating.


Reverend Harne will lie in state at the church on Friday from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM.


His family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Victory Baptist Church.


The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Chris Guttery, Mark Watters, Junior Thomason, Jeff Parish, Dewayne Rogers, and Bobby Helms.
