Attention to orders: Effective at 1300 on 07 June 2019, 1st Sergeant Richard “Dick” Mason Sr., USMC is hereby relieved of his duties here on earth and told to report to his personal commander-in-chief, at Heaven’s Gate, where he will join his fellow Marines for his next duty station.
Dick was born on 30 May 1933, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to the late Earl Victor Mason and Helen Williams Mason.
After graduating high school, he worked as a Routeman before entering the Marine Corps at 29 Palms in 1953. Upon separating from active duty, Dick graduated from Oklahoma University with a BA and spent the next 40+ years in the Insurance business as an executive. He and his wife, Anne enjoyed watching the grandchildren grow up and boating on Lake Texoma.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Helen Mason; daughter, Amanda Leigh “Mandi” Brumbelow; sister, Sue Vinson and niece Debbie Hightower.
Dick is survived by his wife, Anne Mason; children, Richard Mason Jr. of Tulsa, OK, Philip Mason of Baton Rouge, LA, Paul Mason of San Diego, CA and Rev. Robert K. Brumbelow of Cedartown, GA; 4 grandchildren, Michael, Ashley, Lane and Brandon and 4 great grandchildren; brothers in law, Bob Vinson of Sherman, TX and Eddie Brannan & wife Theresa of Carrollton, GA; sisters in law, Holly Brannan of Cedartown and Kathy Howell & husband David of Carrollton, GA. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.
The service to celebrate the life of Mr. Richard “Dick” Mason, Sr. will be conducted Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 2:00 PM in the sanctuary of Second Baptist Church in Cedartown with Rev. Justin Carter and Rev. Wayne Benefield officiating. Condolences may be offered to the family following the memorial service.
