Richard David Weeks

November 12, 1953 — November 21, 2024

Mr. Richard David Weeks, age 71, of Cedartown, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2024.

Mr. Weeks was born November 12, 1953, in Rome, Georgia, son of the late Donald Weeks and Inez Holcombe Weeks.

Mr. Weeks graduated from Model High School, Class of 1972, and went on to attend Floyd Jr. College after graduation. Mr. Weeks married his soulmate, Joye Weeks, April 6, 1984. In the early years of their marriage, he selflessly worked two jobs in order to provide for his family. Mr. Weeks had a special way of storytelling, which brought much joy to the lives of his family and friends. He loved entertaining any who would come and making large meals for them. He was truly a dog whisperer and had many “fur babies” who adored him throughout the years.

Mr. Weeks was a dynamic person with many passions in life. He had a humble spirit and compassionate heart. He felt that acceptance should be granted to all people, from the lowest person in rank to the CEO. He was very giving and had a big heart, but never wanted accolades for his deeds. The Shriner’s Hospital and St. Jude’s were very dear to him, and he supported them unwaveringly. He always took great care to watch after his neighbors.

Due to his forty-six-year long career working around high voltage at Georgia Power, Mr. Weeks was a meticulous and consistent person, always following a routine. Mr. Weeks enjoyed learning and mastering the art of becoming a master blacksmith. Some of his many hobbies included organic gardening, hunting, and hand carved woodworking. After the passing of his son, Jason David Weeks, he dedicated his woodworks to him and named it “Spirit of Jason Woodworks.”

Mr. Weeks was a member of Pine Bower Baptist Church. His faith was very important to him. He displayed this in his service to the Masons as Chaplain. More than anything, Mr. Weeks’ family was at the center of his life. He loved the Garmon family as his own. He bestowed the title of family to many friends over the years. Mr. Weeks was a present and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He leaves a legacy that will impact his family and friends for years to come. He truly embodied the spirit of his favorite scripture in 1 Corinthians Chapter thirteen.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Weeks is preceded in death by a son, Jason David Weeks; son-in-law, Hugh Dean Morgan II; brothers: Robert Weeks, and James Weeks; sister, Eleanor Slaughter; and “fur babies” Princess, Mollie, Lucy, Buttercup, Millie, and Gypsie.

Mr. Weeks is survived by his soulmate of forty years, Joye Garmon Weeks; children: Britney Weeks (Chris Tenpas), Susan Morgan; daughter in law, Kellie Weeks; and dearly loved grandchildren: Jon Gresham, Zane Weeks, George Mason Weeks, Hugh Morgan V, Leila Weeks, and Leona Weeks. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins, whom he loved and treated as his own; sister, Betty Weeks; cousin whom he loved as a sister, Jane Manner; and “adopted sister” Barbara Daniels.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Richard Weeks will be held Saturday, November 23, 2024, in the chapel of Smith & Miller Funeral Home, at 2:00 PM, with brother Jamie Newsome officiating. A committal service will follow in Pine Bower Cemetery. Masonic Rites will be provided by the Caledonia Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Weeks’ family will receive friends also on Saturday at Smith & Miller Funeral Home, from 1:00 PM until the service hour.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be his dear friends: Fred Langford, Steve Langford, Tony Isbell, David Alred, Larry Cagle, Roger Rainey, Rip Montgomery, and Curt Burch.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital or the Georgia Masonic Children’s Home.

The Smith & Miller Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mr. Richard David Weeks.
