Sammy L. Green, Jr.

Mr. Sammy L. Green, Jr., age 70, of Cedartown passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2025.

Sammy was born August 22, 1954, son of the late Samuel L. Green, Sr. and Jamie Ruth Witcher Green.

A small but mighty man who served the Lord, his church, and his neighbor, Sammy Green was a lifelong member of Friendship Baptist Church and the Cedartown community.

Sammy was the owner of Greenwood Acres and was raised working in the family owned nursery and greenhouses. He later became a beloved horticulture caretaker to many businesses in downtown Cedartown. Sammy further displayed his servant’s heart by mailing hundreds of birthday and holiday cards every year to a long list of family and community members.

Sammy’s highest calling was serving and caring for Friendship Baptist Church. He was the first one to open the church and last one to leave, making sure every need was attended to. He served the church in many capacities. He was the coordinator for funeral receptions, caretaker of the church landscape, oversaw the offering every week, and took care of the continuous list of “odds and ends” around the church.

Graveside interment services will be held Sunday, March 23, 2025, at 2:00 PM, in the family plot of Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, with Pastor Kyle Camp officiating and Mr. Fred Green sharing a eulogy.

Family members and Friendship Baptist Church will host a reception and time of visitation for Sammy’s loved ones and community members as they gather to share their memories following his interment.
