Sammy James Strickland

March 30, 1940 — August 15, 2023

Mr. Sammy James Strickland, age 83, passed away, Tuesday, August 15, 2023.


Mr. Strickland was born March 30, 1940, in Buchanan, Georgia, son of the late Mac and Annie Strickland.


Mr. Strickland was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed singing and leading songs at church. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Strickland enjoyed time spent with his family at the lake and was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan.


In addition to his parents, Mr. Strickland was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Strickland; son, Jason Strickland; three sisters; and two brothers.


Mr. Strickland is survived by his loving wife, Mrs. Doris Strickland; sons, Randy Strickland, and Michael Strickland and his wife, Tonya; grandchildren: Dustin Strobel, Austin Strobel, Brody Strickland, Carson Strickland, Casey Strickland, Tyler Strickland, Garrett Strickland, Crystal Norton, Sunni Allen, Kristin Strickland, and Maggie Strickland. Also surviving are twelve great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.


Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 3:30 PM, in the chapel of Smith & Miller Funeral Home, with Reverend Michael Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Lee’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, with Reverend Frankie Madrie officiating. Full Military rites will be provided by The American Legion Brown-Wright Post 12.


The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Dustin Strobel, Austin Strobel, Brody Strickland, Carson Strickland, Casey Strickland, Tyler Strickland, and Garrett Strickland.


Mr. Strickland’s family will receive friends, Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Smith & Miller Funeral Home from 2:00 PM until 3:30 PM.


The family requests that flowers please be omitted and memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to assist with final expenses.
