Mr. William Robert “Bob” Grissett, age 86, of Rome, Georgia, passed away peacefully to his Heavenly home on Wednesday, March 6th, 2024, following a battle with brain cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Myrtle Grissett, and a sister, Annette Stone.
Bob was born in Sampson, Alabama, on July 10, 1937. He later moved to Rome where he graduated from the original Rome High School and was even named Mr. Rome for weightlifting during his time there. Bob then entered military service where he served in both the Army and then the Navy. After that, he spent years self-employed as a truck driver where he hauled GE transformers among other things. Then, he worked for the City of Dalton until the time of his retirement.
Bob loved the Lord and his church, Rush Chapel Methodist, and attended there faithfully until his illness no longer allowed it. In his spare time he loved weightlifting, riding his motorcycle, playing his guitar, fishing, camping, and just being outdoors. He talked about camping even up to the time of his death. He also loved music and instruments in general, root beer, Red Lobster, shopping at Sam’s Club, all clothing made of cotton, and his dog, Sunday.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Juanita Gaines Grissett, to whom he was married on August 28th, 1987. He also leaves behind a son, Mike (Joan) Grissett, of Michigan, and a daughter he gained from his marriage with Juanita, Regina (Thomas) Laney from Rome. He also leaves behind several grandchildren and their spouses: Jessica (Kyle) Carney, Niki Foster, Derek (Caitlin) Grissett, Hannah Grissett, Seth (Jennifer) Laney, and Darcy (Chad) Liddle, and numerous great-grandchildren: Davis, Dempsey, and Laney Carney; Liam, Ryan, Hank, and Rowan Foster; Waylon and Weston Grissett; Alyssa, Briggs, and Jasper Laney; Alex Liddle and his fiance, Holly Cornelius, and Landon Liddle. He is also survived by his brother Jim (Marie) Grissett, his brother-in-law, Steve Stone, a niece, and two nephews.
Bob’s family appreciates all the love and support during the time of his sickness. They would like to send a special thanks to Heyman Hospice and especially Stacey Mobbs for taking such good care of him. In lieu of flowers, they ask that donations be given to Rush Chapel Methodist Church. They will have a Celebration of Life service at the church on Sunday, March 17th at 5:00.
The Smith & Miller Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mr. William Robert "Bob" Grissett.
