William "Eugene" Smith, Jr

Mr. William “Eugene” Smith, Jr., age 64, of Rome, Georgia, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024.

Eugene was born March 19, 1959, in Rome, son of the late William E. Smith, Sr. and the late Joyce Atkins Smith.

Eugene had recently retired as, shop foreman, with Floyd County Board of Education. He was a talented mechanic and could fix any type of vehicle. He had been a long time “Ham Radio Operator” and always looked forward to talking with his fellow operators. He would also volunteer in a time of crisis with Floyd County Emergency Management Agency.

In addition to his parents, Eugene is preceded in death by his brother, Michael Timothy Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Mary Bartels Smith; children, Billy Smith, Danny Smith, and Timothy Lary; grandchild, Amelia Grace Smith; brother, Tony Smith, and nephew, Hudson Smith.

A private family service will be held at a later date to celebrate and honor his life.
